Other Events:
Karlovy Vary Film Festival...July 2-10...Like independent films? Heard Sundance got to commercial? Want to run into Hollywood Stars on the street? You just lucked out big time. Now in its 45th year the Karlovy Vary Film Festival has become one of the worlds most respected, but still under the radar so it avoids the pretension and media blitzes of Sundance or Cannes. Karlovy Vary is a beautiful spa town and easy day trip at just over 2 hours from Prague. Its spas alone get it billing in every guide book and with the added film festival it is definitely worth a day. Check out the festival website here to get program and ticket info.
Rock for People...July 3-6...The Czech Republic's biggest outdoor music festival returns with a record number of bands. This years head liners are: Muse, The Prodigy, Editors, Skunk Anansie, NOFX and Morcheeba and you can check out all the details at their website here.
World Cup...obviously this is not a Prague exclusive event, but if you want to know where to watch the games, we would recommend Reigrovy Sady beer garden (see below). It has two large outdoor screens and a crazy atmosphere of mixed Czechs and Expats. Get there early (we are talking hours) to get a seat for big games.
Beer Gardens…with the weather now nice Prague’s many beer gardens have opened up, we recommend Letna Park (Letenske Namesti tram stop and walk south) and Reigrovy Sady (walk into the Park opposite Saints bar) Both have areas with spectacular sunset views, perfect after a day of sightseeing. On the Maps:
Letna Beer Garden: is here
Riegrovy Sady Beer Garden: is here
Theater/Opera… Prague’s National Theater has several locations and great performances, you can see the whole schedule in English here: http://www.narodni-divadlo.cz/Default.aspx?jz=en&dk=program.aspx#
