Further out:
June 26th…Queer Pride Brno…the Czech Republic’s second city will again upstage its Big brother. This is the Third Pride Parade in the nation, and the second in Brno (Brno 2008, Tabor 2009). There were some troubles in 2008, but unlike other Central European countries, the police did an excellent job. We look forward to this being the biggest Pride event yet. If nothing else, Brno is a nice day trip just two and a half hours from Prague and this is a great excuse to go. The website is here, and the Face Book group here. We would also recommend taking the bus as it is cheaper and faster than the trains, Prague’s Florence station has the busses and the ticket sales windows, as well as Student Agency online.
*Events in bold are less normal occurrences
Other Events:
Czech Beer Festival…Running from May 14th to the 30th, this beer festival is now in its third year and quickly becoming a Prague tradition. It doesn’t yet have that Oktober Fest atmosphere, but the Praguers are certainly trying to add something each year. Truly, this is a rare opportunity to sample so many great beers so easily. To keep things simple, everyone buys tokens near the entrance and then all things inside are purchased with this play money. Don’t worry, there are places to buy more inside, and if you buy too many they are willing to exchange them back for cash. Check out the website for details and directions.
Fringe Fest…Running from May 28th to June 6th. Fringe Fest is a collection of live shows around Prague, all interesting and usually very unique. This is definitely worth looking up. Prices are reasonable and many performances are in English. Many shows sell out so it is best to reserve tickets in advance. Check out the website for information on shows, times, and locations.
Beer Gardens…with the weather now nice Prague’s many beer gardens have opened up, we recommend Letna Park (Letenske Namesti tram stop and walk south) and Reigrovy Sady (walk into the Park opposite Saints bar) Both have areas with spectacular sunset views, perfect after a day of sightseeing. On the Maps:
Letna Beer Garden: is here
Riegrovy Sady Beer Garden: is almost here
Theater/Opera… Prague’s National Theater has several locations and great performances, you can see the whole schedule in English here: http://www.narodni-divadlo.cz/Default.aspx?jz=en&dk=program.aspx#
OR, you can pick up tickets online to these and other Shows here: http://www.ticketsonline.cz/
Art/Music events…Best to go to Ticketstream.cz, they have the biggest listing of events all around.
